The number of Botox injections in our area and across the country has continued to increase since Botox was first FDA approved several years ago. It is now the most frequently performed ‘procedure’ in plastic surgery offices. This ten minute office injection has been shown to be very safe and extremely effective in removing facial wrinkles. It is most often done to treat the area between the eyebrows, the forehead and the crow’s feet wrinkles around the eyelids. You should know that it temporary. The first injection usually lasts about three months. Subsequent injections tend to last longer and longer as you continue to use Botox. We often get the question – what’s the difference between regular liposuction, laser liposuction (‘smart lipo’), vaser liposuction and ultrasonic liposuction? These all differ from regular liposuction in that these newer techniques offer additional skin tightening. This is accomplished by delivering high energy (either by laser light or ultrasonic sound waves) internally to the tissues before the fat is actually removed. This energy helps to break up the fat cells and tighten the overlying skin in both men (especially male gynecomastia) and women. This can lead to more complete fat removal and a smoother result. These techniques can help improve the result in areas where there may be a concern of skin laxity after liposuction. As an added benefit there seems to be less bleeding and bruising.
